When you think Miami accommodations, you probably think sky-high penthouses and art deco boutique hotels.
But there's another Miami. A city steeped in history and Old-Florida charm. If that's more your speed, then you may want to forgo the traditional hotels and stay at a Miami bed and breakfast. Yes, they exist.
I'm a sucker for B&Bs. If James Lipton ever asks me, "What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt?" I'd say B&B owner. And if Miami River Inn Bed and Breakfast ever goes up for sale, I'll be eyeing it.
I recently had the privilege of staying at the century-old B&B for about the price of a ho-hum hotel room. The place oozes charm, from the antique furniture to the hardwood floors to breakfast spread the next morning. Each of its 40 rooms is unique. It reminds me of my grandparents' house, right down to the bar of Ivory soap in each bathroom.
The cozy B&B is located in a surprisingly convenient location, a few blocks from Interstate 95 and Calle Ocho. In fact, before breakfast, I took a job down the famed thoroughfare to take in the smell of freh guava cakes from the cafes lining the street.
