Here's a bird's-eye view of the landscape that makes up the Dead Lakes.

Dead Lakes Recreation Area in Northwest Florida takes its name from the skeleton husks of thousands of dead tree trunks that have dotted the swamp since a naturally occurring sandbar dammed the Chipola River sometime in the last few hundred years.

You may not be able to see it from this vantage point, but the ground level offers plenty, including plant and animal life, fishing, boating, and camping.
